The table shows overall public revenue—central government and local authorities—in the United Kingdom for the specified fiscal year. Government revenue totals are aggregated for each major revenue type.

All outlays for British public revenue prior to 2025 are outturn. More recent revenue, including future years out to 2028, are estimated outturn, planned, or guesstimated.

Public sector revenue between 1947 through 2028 is based on ONS data for historical revenue and OBR data for estimated revenue.

You can use controls on the table to change the year or to drill down to view more detailed revenue information. You can also view the revenue data as percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Click the button at the right of each line of the table to display a bar chart of public revenue in Britain. Click a button at the base of each column for a bar chart or pie chart. You can right click on the chart image to copy and paste it into your own content. Click the image to close the chart display.

Notes

Outturn vs. Plan: Public revenue data in ukpublicrevenue.co.uk includes public revenue outturns and also future revenue in three categories: estimated outturn, planned, and guesstimated. Records of recent revenue are more detailed than historical records of earlier times.

Public Revenue Updates: The historical revenue numbers since 1947 are based on the Office for National Statistics PSF time series dataset. The current estimated revenue numbers are based on the Office for Budget Responsibility’s March 2017 Economic and fiscal outlook – charts and tables: fiscal. The next update to historical revenue numbers will be made in April 2025. The next update to estimated revenue numbers will be made in March 2026.
